Children’s education is expensive. In some countries, the government pays for some of or all of the costs involved.
Do the advantages of this practice outweigh its disadvantages?

The past decades witnessed an increasing number of countries that pay for the educational costs of their children. I firmly believe the advantages of such a practice far outweigh its disadvantages of such a practice and my belief is based on two significant reasons.

Economically, it is beneficial not only to the family in the short run but also to the country in the long term if government pays for children's education. A crucial factor for a country's sustainable economic growth is a reliable supply of well-educated people. If the government invests money in children's schooling, it is actually investing in long-term sustainable development of its economy. It will meantime reduces financial burden of the families. The benefits of such a practice has been testified by the dynamic and successful economy of countries like America, Japan, Germany and China in recent years. Those countries all have been providing free education for their children for many years.

In the second place, in terms of social and political equality and equilibrium, free education for children makes indispensable contribution. All communities, being they rich or poor, have a fair number of families which are either not rich nor not liberal enough to afford many years' costly education for their children. If the government does not provide free education, those children will receive limited or even no schooling. As a consequence, the fluidity and equality of the society will be severely undermined. And this may trigger further political, social and economic problems.

To put it in a nutshell, free education provided for children by the government is politically and socially recommendable and economically beneficial and it is the wisest investment of taxpayers' money.
